Many people ask me what a specific crystal or stone “does.” I am by no means an expert on stones and crystals, but I do like doing research! That said, I am adding crystals and stones to the list of topics I post/blog about. Today I will teach you some of the critical factors of the semi-precious stone, Amethyst. Amethyst is by far my favorite stone because it heals, comes in many shapes and sizes, and is a semi-precious stone, crystal, or different types of cuts.
Natural Amethyst has been around for up to 2,000 years; just recently, synthetic Amethyst became widespread in the past hundred years. Amethyst derives its name from the Greek word ametusthos, meaning ‘not intoxicated.’ Which, in my opinion, is hilarious as I rarely drink, and it is my birthstone. It is just so fitting. What makes it even more ironic is that Amethyst has always been used to prevent ‘drunkenness’ and ‘overindulgence’ by many different religions, such as Catholicism. The Romans also believed it protected against ‘drunkenness.’ Amethyst has had multiple uses over the years.

Amethyst geodes are formed in cavities of volcanic rock. As the rock cools, the mineral water in these cavities has volcanic material and gases that refine and crystallize. Thus, long kaleidoscopic crystals are known as Amethyst shapes when this water and volcanic material cools and solidifies. Inside these geodes, beautiful darker purple crystals have formed; they can also have a red trace of color which will eventually fade into a lovely lilac color. These cavities, or deposits, can be found in many places worldwide, such as Brazil, Uruguay, Australia, Namibia, and even some places in America. As of right now, the largest deposit found is in South America. Once these geodes are gathered, they can be used for many different things. Most commonly used as jewelry as it ranks a seven on the Mohs scale.
Amethyst can be cut into many different shapes, which is why it is excellent for jewelry. Along with being practical for jewelry, Amethyst has many other uses, such as decoration or healing. Yes, you read that right. Amethyst can heal you. Amethyst is a natural tranquilizer that relieves stress, balances your mind, body, and soul, disperses anger and anxiety, and helps ease insomnia. This stone has so many benefits. It is one that you definitely need in your home. The Amethyst has fire energy, which means it is meant to bring positive vibrations, confidence, brightness, warmth, and the ability to connect. That being said, this stone is perfect for the living or dining room or wherever people often get together in your home.

Although the Amethyst is a hard stone, it, like us humans, needs ‘recharging.’ This is done by exposing it to the light of a full moon; it is recommended this be done every full moon. It is highly discouraged to expose your Amethyst to the sunlight as it can heat up and discolor. This usually will not happen until the stone reaches around 500ºF but can happen from prolonged exposure to sunlight. No one wants a yellow or brown Amethyst. While you may just get a colorless Amethyst, it is better to not take the chance.
The Amethyst stone is so helpful. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed! It is definitely worthwhile to purchase one for your home today. Amethyst is my favorite stone as it has so many benefits, who wouldn’t like Amethyst?
