Self-Care is Vital and 3 Ways to Self-Care

Hey everyone, I know I have been slacking on updating my blog. With my writing career and candle business taking off, I have had limited time to focus on myself and my needs, let alone a blog. Life has been crazy and frenzied. With this muddled energy, I must remember that self-care is vital. Without self-care, our bodies can shut down and refuse to let us do what is crucial, such as work or school.

Short Update on my Life:

I have not been the best at tending to myself, often putting others’ needs before mine in the past. I have learned now that there are better ways to manage things.

Most of the time, not all, the more energy you give to others, the less you give to yourself. This can be tricky for someone with mental issues like me.

I have recently learned a lot about myself and who I am, ending bad ties and holding my distance from those I do not wholly trust.

To mend and process my trauma and other cares, I must focus on myself for a while.

That doesn’t mean I will cut everybody off, though I am close to that point. I have cut off many toxic and unhealthy relationships in my life.

There is no conflict between these people and myself. I simply need to step away from their lifestyles for mine to succeed. Is that being selfish? Maybe.

As I see it, sometimes you must be selfish to defend yourself from bad and evil. These two things can creep up and boot you straight on your ass.

In any case, self-care is vital regardless of who you are.

Do you know the many ways of self-care? Self-care can be the simple task of staying in bed instead of mentally draining yourself when it is not needed. It is not always meditating and using a face mask.

That said, I want to spread positivity to my followers and subscribers.

A Deeper Look at Self-Care Methods

There are several ways of self-care. What works for one person only sometimes works for the next. You may need to try various self-care methods to find one that works.

I enjoy guided meditation as my form of self-care. I listen to guided meditations every night before bed. There are several on YouTube that you can find by searching “guided ______ meditation.” Fill in the blank with your problems, such as sleeping or anxiety.

Since listening to these videos, I have made notable progress on my insomnia and more.

1. Meditation Self-Care Method

Meditation can be guided by yourself, a recording, or a person. Try many methods of meditation before calling it quits on this method. Meditating is not always an overnight fix. You may need to have a few sessions before seeing any progress.

For a successful meditation, you want a quiet, maybe dark, space where you can completely relax without distraction. The key to meditation is the ability to relax entirely.

Things you may use to help relax can include:

  • Quiet and dark room.
  • Salt Lamp.
  • Candles.
  • Meditation Cushion.
  • Yoga mat.
  • Essential oils or incense.

You can practice meditation any way you feel fit. It is not one size fits all.

 2. Take a Hot Bath or Shower for Self-Care

Hot or warm water can be a great way to self-care. Not only does a shower make you clean, but it can also relax you! Many people use a hot bath or shower to relax at the end of their day.

Studies show that hot showers can reduce anxiety and stress. Your brain releases the hormone oxytocin due to the heat stimulating your brain. Oxytocin is linked with anti-stress and relaxation effects. A hot bath can do the exact same.

A hot bath or shower can be the perfect way to self-care.

3. Take a Break!

I am guilty of this one. I, along with many people, forget to take a break once in a while. If you keep going and going without letting your body take a break, it can end badly. Your body needs breaks to restore itself. Your body is meant to repair itself. The only way it can fix itself is if you allow it to. With a break, your body gets the rest it needs. Take a break; you can hold off your duties for 10 or 15 minutes to refresh your brain. A 5 to 60-minute break can restore your body and brain, improving productivity, focus, and energy.

” Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. ”

– Anne Lamott
