Tennessee
I want to visit one of the states on my top ten: Tennessee, the “volunteer state.” The state got its name from its’ immense support in the wars in 1812 and 1846. In 1812, 20,000 troops volunteered to fight. In 1846, 30,000 residents of Tennesee enlisted for the Mexican-American War. Tennessee is number one on my to-visit list. I want to tell you a bit more about why I want to visit and some fun facts.
The main reason I want to visit Tennesse is for the attractions. The first thing I’d like to do is visit Elvis Presley’s mansion in Memphis. I want to take my dad along for that. He is a huge Elvis fan! The estate sits on fourteen acres and is open daily for tours, usually. With COVID, it has since been restricted to help social distance. I would love to see such a piece of history.
Next, I’d like to see The Great Smoky Mountains, as I love mountains, nature, and hiking. There are 850 miles of trails in The Smokies with plenty of wildlife like black bears, white-tailed deer, gray foxes, pygmy rattlesnakes, southern leopard frogs to salamanders. The National Park is great for seeing waterfalls like Grotto Falls.
Grotto Falls is a 25-foot high waterfall that takes a short 1.5-mile one-way hike. The walk to the waterfall takes about 2-3 hours round trip. There is plenty of other activities rather than hiking. There are plenty of things to do like ride a horse or go fishing. There are 2,900 miles of streams in The Smokies; 20% of those streams are large enough to support the trout population.
There is plenty of trails, wildlife, and farmland but let’s talk a little more about the home to some of the most famous music venues in the world like The Grand Ole Opry. The Music City, Nashville. Music is one of the essential parts of my life, which is why I want to see Nashville!
Obviously, I love Nashville, I love Tennessee. It’s a great organization to play for.
